Introducing DurexHCP
The new interactive homepage for sexual health and family planning professionals
Welcome to the newly-launched DurexHCP.co.uk.
The site is interactive and customisable, and we want you to get the most out of it, so this guide should get you going and have you customising your page and its content in no time. Note that some customisation features are restricted to registered users, indicated with an asterisk next to the heading. Registration is free, and lets you get the most out of your DurexHCP.co.uk.
Things that go bump
You'll have noticed that the homepage is split into panels, containing various content such as sexual health news and weather. But these aren't fixed; you can click and drag them around to customise your page layout. As you do, the other panels will be bumped into new positions.
And don't worry about having to do this every time you visit; as with all customisation options, the page remembers your preferences for next time!
Pick 'n' mix
Moving the panels around is one thing, but DurexHCP.co.uk also allows you to choose what content is displayed. You can either turn off a panel completely, or modify what appears within it. The majority of the homepage content is fed by RSS - a method of news-sharing between various websites - so there's plenty of it, and you are likely have preferences about which feeds you want to keep and in what positions.
So, do you like your job and so you are not looking for another? You can turn off the jobs panel. Rather not think about the weather? Off that goes, too. Don't want quite so many news feeds in your the Healthcare Journals column? Keep just the ones you want.
You can turn panels off, or even switch between full and 'compact' mode, by using the grey buttons at the top right of each panel. To edit what content is displayed within them, e.g. turning off a particular news feed source but keeping others, go to the customisation page and just uncheck the relevant boxes.
One site, four colours *
The site's colour scheme is predominantly blue by default, but once registered you can change this to any of four pre-set themes: cyan, dark blue, green or pink. Once you change this the site automatically reloads itself in the new theme, then you're done.
A local site for local people
Two of the panels allow you to receive content relevant to where you are - the BBC News and Weather panels. Just click the "set my location" button at the top right of the homepage and enter your postcode, and these two panels will update with content relating to your location.
Otherwise, the BBC News panel shows national news and the Weather panel shows weather for London.
Be heard *
Registered users can also vote in the various polls we'll be running on the site. These will change periodically, so register today to add your vote.
Hopefully you now have an idea of how you can get the most out of DurexHCP.co.uk and make it your own. Play around; click and drag things, turn on and off certain feeds, see what colour scheme you like, and then when you've fine-tuned your page, why not make it your browser's homepage?
